This website was launched in order to give details on the objectives, partners involved, users and milestones of the U@MARENOSTRUM project, inform about relevant events and disseminate the press releases, reports and results of the project.
The U@MARENOSTRUM technological platform is a web-based Public Participation GIS created through the customization of the Gov2Demoss open source platform integrated with a Geographic Information System (GIS).
U@MARENOSTRUM aims to involve citizens and local actors from the Mediterranean coastal zones in decision-making processes for the adoption and implementation of water and marine environmental protection policies and legislations in the Mediterranean region in accordance with the EU environmental legislation.
Trial applications including the validation of the project are being conducted in the two participating regions, namely the Ionian Islands Region (Greece) and the Region of Valencia (Spain) from the launch of the platforms January 2010 and April 2010 respectively, till the end of the project. The platforms are hosted by the Region of Ionian Islands (IonR), and the Directorate General for Modernization of Valencia (DGM).
